Dayton (20-8, 13-1) leads Virginia Commonwealth (16-11, 11-3) by two games with two to play. VCU beat Saint Louis 67-60 on Saturday. Fordham (18-9, 10-4) stayed in third place as it denied Dayton a chance to chase a perfect A-10 record.
This was Dayton’s lowest-scoring game since it lost 75-37 to Connecticut in November. The Flyers shot 29.4 percent from the field. It shot worse in the first game against Fordham (25 percent) but won 48-44 on Jan. 26 in Bronx, N.Y.
Jayla Scaife led Dayton with 11 points. Erin Whalen had eight. Araion Bradshaw had 11 rebounds.
Dayton led 10-5 after one quarter but gave up an 11-0 run to start the second quarter. Dayton cut the deficit to 30-28 in the final minute of the third quarter and twice got as close as two points early in the fourth but then an 8-2 run by Fordham gave it a comfortable cushion in the final minutes.
The Flyers close the regular season with a 7 p.m. home game Wednesday against St. Bonaventure and an 8 p.m. road game Saturday at Saint Louis.
