The Dayton Flyers women’s basketball team suffered their third one-point loss of the season, falling 54-53 at St. Bonaventure on Thursday.

Dayton (3-14, 2-4) took a one-point lead on a jump shot by Mariah Perez with 15 seconds remaining. Maddie Dziezgowski, of St. Bonaventure, then made a basket from just inside the 3-point line with 5 seconds to play. Dayton turned the ball over on its final possession.

St. Bonaventure (4-17, 1-5) ended a nine-game losing streak and snapped a seven-game losing streak in the series against Dayton. It won its first game under under interim head coach Erica Morrow, who took over the program Sunday when Jesse Fleming was fired after six-plus seasons. St. Bonaventure was 53-135 under Fleming.

Sydney Freeman led Dayton with 15 points. She made 4 of 6 3-pointers. Perez and Arianna Smith each scored nine. Destiny Bohanon had eight points.

Dayton trailed St. Bonaventure by eight early in the second quarter but tied the game on a layup by Perez with 33 seconds left in the half and trailed 27-25 at halftime.

Dayton took control with a 12-4 run in the third quarter to build a 42-34 lead, and it led 44-37 entering the fourth quarter.

Dayton led 51-47 with five minutes to play but scored just two points the rest of the way.

Dayton played without its seventh-leading scorer, sophomore forward Shannon Wheeler (6.9 points per game), who will miss the rest of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery, coach Tamika Williams-Jeter announced Tuesday. Wheeler had not played since Jan. 1 against George Mason.
