Wright State ace Jesse Scholtens was drafted in the ninth round of the 2016 MLB draft by the San Diego Padres on Friday.

Scholtens was the second Wright State baseball player drafted so far in the draft. Catcher Sean Murphy was drafted in the third round by the Oakland Athletics.

The Fairfield, Calif. native was 10-1 in the Horizon league with a 2.17 ERA. He led the league with 16 starts and 109.2 innings pitched. He was second with 95 strike outs and third in ERA.

Scholtens pitched the first perfect game in Wright State history on March 11 against the Dayton Flyers, striking out a career high 12. He was a first-team All Horizon League selection and a second-team selection in 2015.

This was the second draft two Raiders were selected in the top 10 rounds of the draft. The first was in 2008 when first baseman Jeremy Hamilton was taken by the Philadelphia Phillies in the fifth round, and pitcher Justin Parker was drafted in the sixth by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Parker is the current Raiders pitching coach.
