Hamilton was the second Wright State player selected. Second baseman Tyler Black was drafted in the competitive balance round by the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday night. He was the 35th overall pick.
In its history, Wright State has now had 39 players drafted with 12 going in the first five rounds.
As a redshirt junior in 2021, Hamilton hit .374 with 18 doubles, four triples and 15 home runs. He was named the Horizon League Player of the Year and was named a first-team All-American by the Collegiate Baseball newspaper and a second-team All-American by Baseball America.
Also on Monday, a third Wright State player was drafted. The Miami Marlins drafted right-handed pitcher Jake Schrand in the ninth round with the 269th overall pick.
A graduate of Colerain High School in Cincinnati, Schrand was 5-4 with a 4.61 era in 14 starts in 2021. He pitched 68.1 innings, striking out 92 batters.
