Wright State romps in Horizon League quarterfinals

The game was over quickly.

Top-seeded Wright State built a 19-point first-half lead and never was threatened after that in a 71-56 win over eighth-seeded IUPUI in the Horizon League quarterfinals Tuesday.

Bill Wampler scored 14 points in the first half, making four of five 3-pointers, and finished with a game-high 18 for the Raiders (20-12), who will play Green Bay (17-15) at 7 p.m. Monday in the semifinals at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena.

Loudon Love had 13 points and nine rebounds, and Skyelar Potter had 12 points and Malachi Smith 11.

Wright State, which led by as many as 31, improved to 15-2 at the Nutter Center and set a record for home wins in the Division I era (since 1987).

The Jaguars (16-16) started 5 of 19 from the field and barely averaged a point per minute in the first half, trailing 34-21 at the break.

They didn’t score their first points of the second half until getting a breakaway dunk with 14:54 left.
