Wright State women sweep Horizon League weekly awards

Wright State swept the weekly Horizon League women’s basketball awards announced Monday.

The Raiders’ Tyler Frierson was named player of the week, while Shamarre Hale was named freshman of the week. Frierson and Hale helped the Raiders (12-8) go 2-0 last week.

Frierson, a junior center, recorded back-to-back double-doubles in Wright State’s home wins over Detroit Mercy and Oakland. She scored 17 points and grabbed 11 boards vs. Detroit Mercy and 16 points, 13 rebounds vs. Oakland.

Hale, a redshirt freshman forward, totaled 25 points and 20 rebounds in the two victories, including a career-high 13 boards vs. Detroit Mercy, and a career-high 15 points vs. Oakland.

On the men’s side, Wright State’s Tanner Holden was named the league’s freshman of the week.

Holden, a freshman guard, scored 20 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the Raiders’ win over Northern Kentucky. It was his third double-double of the season. Wright State improved to 18-4.

IUPUI’s Marcus Burk was named player of the week.
