Freshman plans to transfer after seeing limited action for Cornhuskers

Xenia High School graduate Samari Curtis is leaving the Nebraska basketball program and plans to transfer, the university announced Friday.

“Samari has informed me that he has decided to transfer,” Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg said in a statement. “I have enjoyed coaching him, and we will support him as he finishes the fall semester and begins looking at other schools. We wish Samari the best in the future.”

Curtis, a 6-foot-4 freshman guard, appeared in all eight games for Nebraska (4-4), averaging 6.1 minutes and 1.8 points.

Curtis signed with Nebraska in May after previously verbally committing to Xavier and then Cincinnati. He changed his mind about the first two programs after they lost their head coaches.

Curtis was Ohio's Mr. Basketball last season. He averaged 33.8 points per game as a senior. He scored a school-record 2,109 points in his career.
