Showers, thunderstorms tonight; Severe weather potential for Thursday

Widespread showers and a chance of thunderstorms arrives tonight, with the threat for severe weather on Thursday when showers, storms and high winds move into the region.

The high for today reached 43 degrees in Dayton, 52 degrees in Cincinnati and 42 degrees in Columbus, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

A large swath of rain showers tonight, mainly after 11 p.m., will spread across the region, providing measurable rainfall of one-half to three-quarters an inch by Thursday morning. Winds will increase with gusts as high as 31 mph and a few rumbles of thunder possible. The overnight low will stay well above normal around 43 degrees.

Thursday will be windy and warm with a high near 60 degrees.

“A few strong to severe storms will be possible Thursday afternoon into early evening. Damaging wind gusts and small hail will be possible. A tornado cannot be ruled out,” the NWS stated.

A Wind Advisory will be in effect from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday for Butler and Warren counties, issued by the NWS. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Sustained west-southwest winds of 14 to 19 mph will become southwest and increase to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Gusts of 40 to 45 mph are possible for some.

There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m. Thursday, followed by a slight chance for the rest of the night. The overnight low will be just above freezing, but it will remain breezy with a west wind of 22 to 25 mph and gusts as high as 38 mph.

Friday will be cloudy, breezy and cold, with a high near 36 degrees. Overnight will be mostly cloudy with a low around 28 degrees.

Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high near 39 degrees.

Snow is likely before 10 a.m. Sunday, then snow and rain are likely between 10 a.m. and noon, followed by rain. Otherwise, it will be cloudy with a high near 40 degrees.
