National Weather Service adds new ‘destructive’ severe thunderstorm category

A Flood Warning for southeastern Clark County has been canceled.

Today will be warm and stormy, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day as a cold front pushes south into the area. Rain and storms will be likely in the afternoon and evening, some of which could be strong to severe.

The main threat from these storms will be strong wind gusts, though the NWS said that hail is still possible and heavy rain could lead to localized flooding.

Outside of storms, highs will be around 86 degrees, though the NWS warned thicker clouds in the southern half of the area could lead to heat index values in the upper 90s.

Starting in the evening rain and storm chances will gradually fall away starting in the northwest as the cold front continues to move through. There will still be a chance of rain and storms overnight, but that will trail off in the early-morning hours.

Clouds will also gradually decrease overnight for partly cloudy skies by dawn on Saturday.

Lows will be around 64 degrees tonight.

Saturday will be cooler and drier, with mostly sunny skies and a high around 82 degrees. Clouds will continue to decrease during the day, but there will still be a few overnight. Lows will be around 59 degrees.

Sunday will be breezy, with mostly clear skies. Highs will be around 80 degrees, falling to around 61 degrees overnight.
