Today will be hot with increasing clouds and a chance of showers and thunderstorms starting in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Highs will be around 95.

The best chances for storms are from 2 to 9 p.m. Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are possible, with damaging wind gusts and local heavy rainfall.

There is a heat advisory in effect until 8 p.m. due to heat index values as high as 105 degrees.

The NWS advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms and out of the sun, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

Overnight, the chance of showers and storms will continue until around midnight before trailing off. Lows will be around 70 degrees.

On Thursday, it will be mostly sunny and hot, with a slight chance of showers throughout the day and a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs will be around 93 degrees, though heat index values will reach up around 100 degrees.

Thursday night will be partly cloudy with lows around 72 degrees.

Friday will be hot with increasing clouds as highs climbing up around 95 degrees. There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms that will continue through the night.

Lows will be around 71 degrees.

A cold front will move through the region Friday night, bringing cooler temperatures and rain.

Showers are possible in the morning and early afternoon before rain chances start to decrease. Highs will be around 80.
