Highs finally above freezing; dry Thursday before rainy, warm holiday weekend

The warmup is underway, with high temperatures finally above freezing ahead of a rainy but warm New Year’s holiday weekend.

The high for today reached 47 degrees in Dayton, 49 in Cincinnati and 45 in Columbus, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Clouds increase tonight, which will stay above freezing with an overnight low around 37 degrees.

Thursday will be mostly cloudy, breezy and warmer but dry, with a high in the lower 50s.

The overnight low only falls to the middle 40s, but a chance of showers arrives, mainly after 4 a.m. Friday.

The rain will linger and is not expected to end until Sunday afternoon, which is New Year’s Day.

The high temperature will be near 52 degrees Friday. Overnight will still be rainy with a low around 46 degrees.

The high will be around 53 degrees for New Year’s Eve. Saturday night will be mostly cloudy with an overnight low around 42 degrees.

New Year’s Day will be mostly cloudy with a high near 51 degrees.

The rainfall total for the weekend is forecast to be between a half-inch and inch, according to the NWS.
