Power outages continue to affect residents and businesses after strong storms hit the region Wednesday.

Meantime, reports of downed trees, power lines and phone lines persisted well into Thursday morning.

Dayton police blocked the 2000 block of West Riverview Avenue after a large tree was knocked down and completely blocked both lanes of the road just before 1 a.m. The roadway was shut down for about 90 minutes, but reopened around 2:10 a.m.

In Greene County, high winds are believed to have knocked down a tree on Stutsman Road near South Alpha Bellbrook Road before 1:30 a.m., causing a driver to crash into the tree.

EARLIER REPORT

While crews continue to work on restoring power to homes and businesses affected by Tuesday’s strong overnight storms, gusty winds are causing new outages in the Miami Valley.

Wednesday afternoon, traffic in the 700 block of Willow Road in Moorefield Twp. was blocked after a tree came down onto some power lines.

Since Wednesday morning, there were fewer than five Ohio Edison First Energy customers without power. By the afternoon, there are nearly 100.

A fire official said the Willow Road incident knocked out power to two nearby homes.

The older tree was partially rotted. The wind blew it onto power lines, which in turn brought down a utility pole across the road.
