Rounds of rain, storms today, tomorrow; Record heat possible Friday

Showers will be likely for most of the afternoon, with a few embedded thunderstorms as the evening continues and the sun sets. The NWS said the showers and storms will likely be weakening as it arrives, but will still bring a soaking rain, especially across the southern part of the area.

About half an inch of rain is expected for most of the region today.

Rain chances will gradually trail off overnight, coming to an end a few hours before the sun rises. A weak cold front moves throughout the night but quickly washes out, the NWS said.

Highs will be around 73 degrees, with lows around 61 degrees.

During the day on Thursday, clouds will decrease for a hot, partly cloudy day with highs around 84 degrees. Dry conditions are expected in the morning and afternoon.

After the sun sets, though, rain and storm chances will pick up again in the form of isolated showers and thunderstorms. The NWS said a few strong to marginally severe storms could be possible, with gusty winds and hail being the main threats.

Overnight lows on Thursday will be around 67 degrees.

Friday will be mostly sunny and hot, with highs climbing up to around 92 degrees.

If highs do hit 92 degrees, it would break temperature records last set over a century ago in 1911, when highs rose to around 91 degrees.

It will be a blustery day, with sustained winds up to 21 mph in the afternoon and gusts up to 31 mph.

Friday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 70 degrees.

Starting after midnight, though clouds will start to increase and there will be a slight chance of rain, which will only increase and be joined by a chance of thunderstorms during the day on Saturday ahead of an advancing cold front.

The NWS warned that showers and storms are likely Saturday afternoon and evening, with a few strong to severe storms possible. During the storms, again gusty winds and hail will be the main threats.
