Scattered snow showers today; Slick roads, sudden drops in visibility possible

Today will be cold and breezy, with numerous, scattered snow showers during the day, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The NWS said that they don’t expect much snow accumulation, but the showers could bring brief, fast drops in visibility and briefly snow-covered, slick roads. It said drivers should be cautious on roads during the day today.

It will also be windy today, with gusts of up to 25 mph possible.

Snow chances will fall in the afternoon, dropping to a slight chance before sunset and trailing off by midnight. Northern communities could see up to an inch of snow accumulation today, but overall little accumulation is expected.

Highs today will be around 35 degrees, and lows will be around 24 degrees.

Friday will be blustery, with gusts as high as 21 mph and sustained winds as high as 15 mph. Highs will be around 37 degrees.

On Friday night, there will be a brief chance of rain and light snow showers after dark, but otherwise it will be mostly cloudy with a low around 33 degrees.

Skies will be mostly cloudy during the day on Saturday, and temperatures will climb to around 43 degrees with lows around 38 degrees overnight.

Overnight, the NWS said that a weather system will bring another round of rain going into Sunday, which could also change to a bit of snow as it departs on Sunday. No snow accumulation is expected at this time.

Highs Sunday will be in the low to mid-40s, with temperatures dropping to the mid-30s overnight.
