Sunny, warmer weather ahead until mid week storm

Sunny and warmer weather is expected the next few days until a mid-week storm Wednesday and Thursday that could bring heavy rain and snow.

Today will be mostly sunny with a high temperature of 35 degrees, the National Weather Service in Wilmington said.

Clouds will increase tonight with a low of 17.

Monday will be mostly sunny. The highest temperature is expected to be around 36 degrees.

Monday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low temperature around 27 degrees.

Tuesday will be partly sunny and unusually warm with a high of 50 degrees.

Tuesday night should be cloudy with a low temperature of only 36 degrees. A 50% chance of rain is possible overnight.

For Wednesday and Thursday, “a potent weather system will impact the area,” the NWS said. “This system has the potential to bring heavy rain and then accumulating winter precipitation as colder air move into the region. Timing, precipitation details, and amounts are still uncertain.”

Colder temperatures and wintry rain is expected to arrive on Thursday, the NWS said via Twitter.

Wednesday is expected to have a 90% chance of rain as highs reach the low 40s. Overnight Wednesday, rain could change to snow, and Thursday snow is expected when the high plunges to 33 degrees.
