By the numbers: A look back at 2019 weather in the Miami Valley

Tornadoes, drought, record-setting rainfall and below zero temperatures -- all of these deeply impacted the Miami Valley in 2019. A new decade has begun but this past year won’t be easily forgotten.

Here is a look back by the numbers:

170 mph - The strongest winds reported from the EF-4 tornado that touched down in central Montgomery County May 27.

94 degrees - The high temperature in Dayton on Oct. 1 and 2, which was the latest 90-degree days were reported in recorded history.

91 - The number of days Ohio had abnormally dry soil and or moderate drought conditions.

70 mph - The strongest wind gust reported in Preble County during the Dec. 30 wind storm.

57 - The number of tornadoes across the state of Ohio this year. The record for the state is 61, set in 1992.

42.97 inches – The total precipitation that fell in 2019.

33 inches – The amount of snow that fell during the calendar year in Dayton, January through December

24 - The number of days warmer than normal in December.

15 - The total number of tornadoes that tore through the Miami Valley during the Memorial Day Outbreak.

14.4 inches - The total amount of snow that fell in January, the most snow for any month in 2019.

10 - The number of months that were warmer than normal.

7 – Feb. 7 was the day a rare winter tornado developed in Clark County.

5 degrees - How cold Dayton was the morning of Nov. 13, which was also the earliest date that single-digit temperatures were reported since records began.

1 – The number of tornado emergencies issued by the National Weather Service this year and on record.

-8 degrees  – The lowest the temperature dropped in Dayton in 2019.
