Warm, windy today with rain overnight before return of cold temperatures

Today will be windy with above-normal temperatures leading up to rain overnight as a cold front pushes through, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

During the day there will be wind gusts as high as 31 mph, with sustained winds around 17 mph. Highs will be around 67 degrees.

Rain chances will begin around sundown, with showers becoming likely a few hours before midnight.

Showers will continue throughout the night, only falling to a chance of showers just before dawn on Thursday.

Temperatures will fall overnight to around 40 degrees.

On Thursday, there will still be a chance of rain in the morning that will trail off around noon. Clouds will also decrease during the morning, for partly cloudy skies in the afternoon.

Temperatures in the wake of the cold front won’t rise much from overnight, to a high around 47 degrees.

Clouds will continue to fall overnight as temperatures drop down to around 26 degrees.

By dawn on Friday, skies will be mostly sunny, though clouds will gradually increase during the day and overnight.

Highs will be around 43 degrees, falling below freezing again overnight to a low around 29 degrees.
