Want to take a day trip without leaving the city? Take a voyage to La Michoacana #5 Mexican Market at 748 Troy St. in Dayton. You won't even need a passport.
Managed by Jose Al Gomez, La Michoacana is part of a Columbus-based grocery store chain. It is called a Mexican market, but cashier Diana Diaz, a Stebbins High School grad born in Mexico City, said it sells goods and foods popular throughout South America. The diversity of goods is definitely a plus. Diaz, 21, pointed out some of the best things about the market that opened nearly nine years ago.
Here are 13 deliciously cool things you will find at La Michoacana #5.

1. Sweet and hot tooth
This is your place if you are looking for a treat with a little kick. The store's aisles are filled with sugary, salty and straight-up hot South American favorites like Takis Fuego, a spicy roll of crunch. Cool your mouth down with an egg nog-flavored ice cream bar.

2. Fruits and veggies
You will find everything from plantains to yucca in the store's produce section.

3. An abundance of drinks
Diana said Mexican-style Coca Cola made with sugarcane is a true crowd favorite, but so is Tropical brand banana soda and Sidral Mundet's apple soda.

4. Pan dulce
Diana says the store's sweet breads (pan dulce) and other baked goods come from the chain's Columbus stores or a bakery in Cincinnati. The donuts are particularly popular.

There is a good chance you will find that special ingredient for your favorite Latin dish here on the store's wall of flavor.
