2 prominent retailers to move into large storefront near Dayton Mall

A vacant storefront in area shopping center is slated to be filled by two new tenants.

Golf Galaxy and Skechers will share space at 2661 Miamisburg Centerville Road, in Miami Twp., at the intersection of Mad River Road and Ohio 725.

The space previously was the home to Babies ‘R’ Us for many years. That store was replaced by a Dick’s Warehouse Sale location in 2022, which relocated to the former site of Field & Stream at Austin Landing in 2023.

Golf Galaxy will take 20,000 square feet of the space, and casual and active footwear retailer Skechers will occupy 9,500 square feet, according to Danielle Kuehnle, senior vice president of sales and leasing for Oberer Realty Services.

Acadia Realty Trust owns the entire shopping center. Separately owned is an Aldi grocery store, which opened in an outlot in 2022, replacing the former Barnes & Noble bookstore there.

Kuehnle said this is a first-in-the-market store for Skechers, which has 16 locations in Ohio, including in Monroe and Cincinnati.

“With the announcement of Golf Galaxy and Skechers, Mad River Station is positioned to capitalize on the leasable opportunities remaining in this mixed-use center,” she said.

Kuehnle said she represented the landlord in the transaction while Tori Nook and Allison Giomuso of Anchor Retail represented Skechers. Giomuso told this news outlet the anticipated opening for Skechers in the first quarter of 2025.

Golf Galaxy was represented by Greg Meyer at Anchor Associates. Nico Marocco, Golf Galaxy’s manager of real estate, said the new location is anticipated to open in March 2025.

Founded in 1997, Pennsylvania-based Golf Galaxy has more than 100 stores nationwide, eight of them in Ohio.

It offers golf equipment, apparel, accessories, technology and golf gifts for people of all ages and abilities. Brands it carries include Callaway Golf, TaylorMade, Cobra, Cleveland, PING, Titleist, Nike Golf, Adidas and FootJoy. Golf Galaxy also sells pre-owned golf clubs and offers golf club trade-ins.

Mad River Station shopping center is home to Amar India Restaurant, Anthony’s Furniture, Office Depot, Olive Garden, Pearle Vision, Phenix Salon Suites, Starbucks Coffee and Tennis Zone.
