Since opening in 2009, Crayons to Classrooms has distributed over $39.5 million school supplies to teachers of students in need.
On GivingTuesday, Crayons to Classrooms welcomed 167 teachers to its annual Book Give Back event. Miami Valley teachers received 11,011 books to stock their classroom libraries and give to students in need. Each teacher left with a bag overflowing with books, and the event distributed over $44,000 worth of books.
“It was amazing seeing so many teachers filling up bags of free books to stock their classroom libraries,” said high school English teacher Emily Sumner at the David H. Ponitz Career Technology Center. “I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to bring literacy into my classroom without breaking the bank!”
According to local teachers, 70 percent of local students lack the supplies they need to make it through the school year. To bridge the gap, teachers often spend their own money to support their students.
By supporting C2C, you can help remove the financial burden teachers feel and provide vital supplies and educational materials to equip their classrooms. Crayons to Classrooms is asking for the community’s help in stocking shelves for the second half of the school year.
The organization’s Teacher Resource Center provides essential supplies to over 2,200 teachers and 50,000 students from the 130 schools and 13 childcare centers on their eligible schools list.
